SCHOOL children in Bromsgrove were to take part in a two-day course on road safety, the first scheme of its kind in Britain. Pupils at North Bromsgrove High School would be the first to take part in the scheme, which had been devised by local headmaster William Broomfield and county road safety officers and which it was hoped would become part of the national curriculum.

BROMSGROVE'S new bus station in Market Street was set to open next week when High Street would be permanently closed to through traffic. Six bus stands had been created, along with shelter for waiting passengers. This was something most of the previous stops in the town centre had lacked.

TWENTY tour operators gathered at Perry Hall Hotel for what was hoped would result in Bromsgrove being put on the tourist map. They were given information about the town's suitability as a tourist centre and were alsotaken on a three-mile bus ride to visit the area's local attractions. The meeting was organised by Margaret Norton whose husband Dennis ran the town's heritage museum in Birmingham Road.

BROMSGROVE Rugby Club played host to Apeldoorn Rams, who were playing their first match of their tour of Britain since arriving from Holland. The town won 32-0.
