Bromsgrove Urban District Council fixed the rate for the coming year at 23/6 (£1.18) in the pound, an increase of 10d. The finance committee recommended it should go up by 1 /4 (7p) to 24/- (£1.20). But Mr W R Harris, one of Rubery's independents, made what he called his annual plea to relieve the fixed income people and this was successful to the extent of 6d (3p). But the district still had a new record rate and one of the few in Worcestershire to put up charges by so much.

A pleasant evening was had at the Navigation Inn, in Stoke Prior, when customers made a presentation to Mr and Mrs H Craven, who had managed the house for three years and were moving to Stourport. They were given an oak drop-leaf table. In accepting the gift, Mr Craven said he and his wife had made many friends at Stoke and they had tried to make everyone feel welcome and happy. The couple also received a tray from Stoke Prior Horticultural Society, which held its meetings at the inn.

A planning appeal took place after Bromsgrove Urban District Council refused to let a building firm put houses on the north side of Perryfields Road, near its junction with Stourbridge Road. The four-acre site formed part of about seven acres, which was purchased by the firm the previous October and was formerly attached to Sheepcote Farm. The council turned down the application on the grounds that the proposed development would not be in the interests of agriculture and the site was outside the scheduled area for building in the county plan. Presenting the case Mr Robinson said the south of Perryfields Road was extensively developed and the proposal was merely in-filling the area. The company wanted to build about 20 semi-detached houses. After the inquiry the inspector visited the site.
