BROMSGROVE was to get a new swimming bath. The town's last bath at Watt Close had been forced to close 14 years ago on health grounds when a particular type of duckweed had been discovered in the water. The urban district council was to look at schemes and visit towns with baths built before the war to get ideas.

A CROWD of 2,000 greeted Prime Minister Sir Anthony Eden and his wife when they made a whistle stop election visit to Bromsgrove. They met Tory officials before being welcomed at the Council House by Labour chairman Cllr Henry Webley. They then walked the short distance to Crown Close where the Premier gave a short speech from a small clearing in the centre of the crowd.

THE number of scouts enrolling in the movement in Bromsgrove was growing, district commissioner Major Mashiter told the annual meeting. But suitable men could not be found at Stoke or Fairfield to run troops, despite there being a desperate need. He congratulated the 1st Bromsgrove group on doing a splendid job organising a troop for disabled boy patients at the Forelands Hospital.

FOLLOWING last year's successful introduction of walking the fair Bromsgrove Court Leet was to do it again on June 24. However, this year the horse fair had been switched from Well Lane to a field in Burcot Lane. This meant the processional route from the Roebuck in High Street would be longer, but less of a climb for older members of the court.

FISHERFOLK in Bromsgrove and Droitwich were facing higher fees to course fish. The present Severn River Board rod licence fee of 3/- (15p) a year was set to rise to make up a £2,000 deficit caused by higher pay for water bailiffs and tackling pollution.
