FOOTBALL fans looking for a good read this summer can delve into the history and memories of one of the region's most famous clubs.
Down Memory Lane with Alvechurch Football Club has been written by Roy Yardley, patron of the Lye Meadow club, and recounts some of the team's glory days and historic exploits since the Second World War.
Yardley recalls when 10,000 supporters travelled to Chelsea's Stamford Bridge for a semi-final match in the FA Amateur Cup and also the side's 11-hour FA Cup tie with Oxford City, which remains a record.
The book also includes profiles and pen pictures of some of Alvechurch's leading players, personalities and officials who made a visit to Lye Meadow a special experience.
The book costs £10 and is available from the Alvechurch Parish Council Shop in Bear Hill, or from Lye Meadow on Tuesday evenings and Saturday and Sunday lunchtimes.
Copies are also available from the author on 62418.
