A MAJESTIC century, a stunning diving catch and a nail-biting finish - Redditch Cricket Club's Division Three match at home to Solihull Blossomfield had it all.

But it ended in disappointment for the Bromsgrove Road side, leaving skipper Nev Mason looking for a change of luck when his players head to Kington on Saturday.

''It was just one of those days,'' said the Redditch captain.

''We had them at 130-6 with 16 overs to go but then this guy scores 100 in 56 balls - his second 50 came in just 16 balls!''

In fact, the visitors could not have had a worse start, losing a wicket to Mason (5-111) off the very first ball.

They recovered to keep the scoreboard ticking over until the arrival of Iqbal, who let rip to steer Bloss to a mighty 281-6 from their 55 overs.

''The first ball he faced bounced over the wicket but everything after that just hit the middle of the bat,'' Mason added.

''He gave one chance when he was on 94 but that was dropped and went for a six!''

Redditch were without opener Dan Protherough but still started brightly with Joe Hill (87) and Evan McCarthy (31) putting on 90 for the first wicket.

But a stunning catch sent the latter back to the pavilion and all hope of challenging their visitors' total was forgotten.

''Realistically, we were playing for a draw but they had one of those days when everything went right for them,'' said Mason.

A good rearguard effort almost saw them cling on but the final wicket fell with two overs to go, with Redditch all out for 183 to hand their visitors a 98-run victory.

Meanwhile, Studley had to settle for a draw in their Division Two match at Old Elizabethans despite a dazzling 130 from Brandon Miller.

Batting first, the visitors lost the early wickets of openers Ash Newdick and Simon Stamenkovic but Miller was on hand to take control of the innings.

Mark Lewis added a useful 26 as Studley set a total of 226-8.

In reply, OEs were restricted to 173-8 from their overs.
