TENNIS: The Premier Division title of the Prudden Road Surfacing Summer League may have already been bagged by Stratford but the race for the runners-up spot is hotting up.

And with second and third-placed teams Studley and Shipston losing, Inkberrow have a chance to claim it.

Studley were shocked to be beaten quite comfortably by an impressive Littleton team who took a straight sets victory and move up to third.

Ian Smith and Chris Elliott began the rout for Littleton as they beat Gary Jackson and Dave Innes (Studley) 6-0, 6-2, and then beat Mike Stanton and Mel McGregor 6-1, 6-3.

Meanwhile, Littleton's Richard Herbourn and Sean Witheford defeated Stanton and McGregor 6-0, 6-3, and Jackson and Innes 6-2, 6-0.

Shipston lost their third place after being hammered by the champions Stratford 4-0 and Inkberrow's match at FISSC was rained off. The other Premier fixture saw Claverdon and Henley share the points in a close 2-2 draw.

In Division Two, Inkberrow B took over at the top despite mixed results. First they enjoyed a 4-0 win over Pershore and then gained another point although surprisingly beaten 3-1 by third placed Moreton.

Previous leaders Stratford E could only draw 2-2 with HDA Redditch while Alcester swapped places in mid-table with Stratford D after they beat them 4-0. The other results saw bottom club Studley B draw 2-2 with Pershore.

Bidford B's match with Ardencote in Division Three came to an early end due to bad light while Alcester B stayed top in Division Four despite not playing. They have been joined by Claverdon C who won their match against Shipston B 3-1.

Bidford, Studley, Shipston A and Alcester are the teams through to the finals of the Prudden Road Surfacing Junior Cup. The quartet will come face to face at Bidford Tennis Club on Monday evening.

Bidford pair George Naylor and Josh Dalton-Morris defeated Snitterfield's Dominic Lorimer and Jack Albrecht 6-1 to book their place despite earlier defeats to Stratford A and B in their final pool games.

The Pool B games were played at Tanworth and it was a good night for Studley's Jack Allum and Sam Hilpert-Smith, who won all three of their matches, dropping just one game.

Current junior champions Shipston A cruised through Pool C where Ben Lane and Nick Taylor did not drop a single game.

Inkberrow hosted the Pool D games and it was Alcester brothers Michael and Arthur Bennett who won through against Pershore, Inkberrow A and B.
