BROMSGROVE Rovers manager Jimmy Mullen believes that goalkeeper Lee Evans is only going to get better.

Evans, who joined from Bedworth United, has shown signs why was he was named best 'keeper in the Southern League Division One West last season.

However, Mullen believes that Evans has the potential to be a match winner for promotion chasing Rovers this season.

He said: "Lee has done okay in the first few games for us. There has been some things he has done brilliantly and there are a few things he needs to work on.

"He's made some excellent saves in the friendlies but he's made a few mistakes.

"But with proper goalkeeper coaching and better fitness he will a very handy asset to the team."

Evans has already been told by Mullen that he will be the number one goalkeeper.

However, the Rovers boss has not rested on his laurels and has signed 'keeper Andy Price from Market Drayton.

Mullen said: "Andy is young and will put a lot of pressure on Lee."

Meanwhile, the manager has spent last the few weeks strengthening his squad.

Striker Lee Greenaway signed for the club before Rovers' game at home to Moor Green last week.

Greenaway is the fourth player from Bedworth United that Mullen has snapped up from the Warwickshire side since he joined in November.

So far Scott Hadland and Phil Male, who both joined in January, have proved to be firm favourites with the fans.

Greenaway impressed on his debut for Moor Green and opened his account for Rovers against Bristol Rovers with a well taken goal.

Mullen said: "Lee's a good player and will do very well for us.

"He holds the ball up well, is physical and knows where goal is."

Striker Aaron Blakemore, who was absent for the game against Bristol, is set to miss tomorrow night's friendly match against Hereford United at the Victoria Ground (3pm kick off).

Experienced midfielder Carl Adams will also miss the match because of injury.

However, other new signings Martin Ruddock, Wayne Dyer and defender Joe Williams are all set to play some part in the match.

Mullen said: "Every game so far has been very competitive, but against Hereford it will be more like a derby match.

"It'll give the players a good workout. We have been improving with every match and I think there's a lot more to come from us."

l Striker Arthur Appleton has been told by Rovers' management team that he is not wanted at the club.

Despite still searching for a striker, Welshpool's Steve Rodgers has been the main target, Appleton was told he had no part to play for Rovers.

The striker enjoyed a strained relationship with the club and fans last year, leaving for Redditch United in December, only to return to Rovers March.

However, he was not able to find the form that caught United manager Rod Brown in the first place.
