BROMSGROVE Rovers are hoping to tempt Atherstone United goal machine Roy Dunkley to the club to bolster its shot-shy side.

The Victoria Ground club submitted a seven-day bid for the forward last week and manager Jimmy Mullen will speak to him tomorrow (Thursday) in a bid to bring him to Rovers.

Dunkley boasts an impressive goalscoring record for The Adders. He smashed the Midland Combination Premier Division club's goal scoring record by bagging a phenomenal 63 goals during the 2004/2005 season.

So far this season Dunkley has put Atherstone at the top of the table by scoring 39 goals.

Mullen has already been to watch the forward, who was at Nuneaton Borough before joining the Adders.

He said: "He's a natural goal scorer. He's not quick, but he has that awareness in the box that all strikers' need.

"He's a very dangerous player and would bring something to the side."

A lack of goals has been Mullen's major concern this season and he and assistant Bernard Mackie have left no stone uncovered in search of a proven hitman.

Rovers have also put in a seven-day approach for Barwell striker Danny Spencer.

Spencer is enjoying a fine season with the Midland Alliance high-flyers, scoring 14 goals so far this season.

While Rovers' management team scour the leagues for firepower, on-loan forward Paul Szewczyk reminded them of his finishing abilities on Monday night. He bagged a brace in the 2-1 victory over Burton Albion Reserves in the Central Conference.

Szewczyk could be line for a return to Rovers' first team for Saturday's Southern League Division One West home clash against joint leaders Ashford Town (3pm kick off).

The striker's goals will certainly provide food for thought for Mullen, though he may stick with in-form Ben Porter and Matthew Barnes-Homer.

Mullen is looking forward to his side locking horns with Ashford, who have been inspired by 23-goal partnership Scott Todd and Ryan Lake.

He said: "Ashford score a lot of goals and we are strong at the back, so it will be an interesting contest.

"They are a good side and will give us some problems

"It's a big, big game and one we're all looking forward to.

"It's important that we win because it will give us the confidence to go on beating the better sides.

Mullen expects a full strength squad available for the Ashford match.

Children under 16-years-old can get in free for Rovers' home match with Cinderford Town on Tuesday, December 27.

Up to three children per adult will be open to the offer.

Rovers' Worcestershire Senior Cup match at home to Sutton Coldfield has been moved to Tuesday, December 20.

The league clash at home to Marlow has been moved to Tuesday, January 10.
