BROMSGROVE Rovers manager Rod Brown has asked restless supporters to give him time to change the team into promotion winners.

Brown has yet to fully win over Rovers supporters since taking over the hot seat at the Victoria Ground three weeks ago.

Some supporters claim that chairman Tom Herbert forced out former boss Jimmy Mullen at the start of January and have yet to warm to the new manager.

However, the former Redditch United and Stourport Swifts boss believes that changes he has made are slowly starting to work.

He said: "I live in Bromsgrove and I've had some nice things said to me by some of the fans. I'm aware that I came in at a difficult time politically. I've learnt very quickly that the chairman isn't very popular at the moment.

But hopefully fans can see what I'm doing to the team. I'm changing the team so it plays at a higher tempo so it will get results.

"I know I won't be able to win over all the fans straight away. But hopefully I can bring the same success that I enjoyed at my other clubs.

"I want to do exactly what I did with Redditch United to Bromsgrove Rovers. This club has massive expectations on it. The fans have high standards that haven't been reached for a while. This club should be playing at a higher level."

Brown will get a chance to answer the supporters' numerous questions on Saturday, January 28, at a fans forum at the Victoria Ground (8pm start). Admission is free of charge.

The Rovers' boss is still in the process of rebuilding the team. He's also aiming to try and solve the team's inability to score goals.

Brown's side failed to take their chances in Saturday's 1-0 defeat to Hemel Hempstead Town.

The manager said: "I was disappointed not to come away with a win. We had enough chances to win the game. Hemel are one of the best sides I have seen so far. They have some really good strikers who caused us trouble. But we made enough chances to score goals, but once again we didn't take them.

"We have to play at a higher tempo and be physically stronger for a whole 90 minutes.

"If we were to play Hemel in a month's time I think we would run out winners. I'm planning to turn this into a more effective team."

At the end of last week Brown brought in 19-year-old striker James Smith on loan from Worcester City. He also released Duncan Willetts last Thursday.

The club has also put in a seven-day approach for striker Gary Hay at cash strapped Willenhall Town.

Brown is also interested in bringing Kidderminster defender Chris McHale in on loan.
