Bromsgrove Rovers (0) 0 Welshpool (0) 1

ROVERS contrived to continue their losing streak in pre-season by slipping to an undeserved loss to Welshpool at the Victoria Ground on Saturday, July 30.

Despite all the pressure and a truckload of scoring chances the hosts were shot down by midfielder Craig Wilkinson's 63rd minute winner.

However, Jimmy Mullen must have been left scratching his head by his side's defeat.

Striker Chris Smith, who scored a brace against Rovers for Hednesford on July 16, started for the home team.

In many ways Rovers produced their best attacking display of the summer, carving out a host of chances. But they squandered them all.

Kevin Banner had sixth minute shot cleared off the line by defender Jonathan Jones. The winger then saw his second attempt fly over the crossbar.

Lee Greenway collected Matthew Barnes-Homer's lofted pass a minute later, but his shot crashed off the right hand post.

The Welsh Premier League side had one chance in the first half, when Ross Jeffries' lob came off Lee Evans' cross bar in the 29th minute.

Rovers hit Welshpool on the break but Greenway shot wide.

The striker then had a well-taken effort curl wide of Welshpool's right hand post in the 53rd minute.

The home side was stunned ten minutes later when Welshpool scored against the run of play.

Rovers target Steve Rogers shot across the face of Lee Evans' goal and Wilkinson touched the ball in.

Barnes-Homer wasted a golden chance to score in the 73minute when he side footed Riad Erraji's low centre wide with the goal at his mercy.

Kevin Banner also spurned a gilt-edged chance with three minutes to go.

Barnes-Homer picked the winger out on the left with a cross-field pass and Banner powered into the box.

However goalkeeper Steve Goodwin got down smartly to pull off a fine save.
