Bromsgrove Rovers 0 Leighton Town 2

Southern League Division One West

BROMSGROVE Rovers slipped to a damaging home defeat on a bitterly cold Tuesday night.

Rovers have missed chances and conceded soft goals all season and this game was no different.

The home side dominated the first half and made more than enough chances to score but spurned them all.

The visitors from Bedfordshire had a sting in the tale as Michael Chennells bagged a second half brace.

Riad Erraji and Daire Doyle made their debuts for Rovers, while Matt Johnson and Wayne Dyer were left on the bench.

Erraji carved out the first chance in the third minute when his deep right wing cross opened up Leighton. Striker Neil Davis shot tamely at goalkeeper Lee Clark.

From the resulting corner Davis sent an overhead kick high.

In the 15th minute Kevin Banner infiltrated Leighton's box but Peter Clifford cleared his centre away with Paul Moore lurking. Banner shot wide in the 25th minute after Clifford mis-controlled the ball.

Doyle was unlucky, as his rasping shot was just wide of the right post.

Banner then spurned a golden chance in the 41st minute. John Snape's curling cross-field pass found the winger free in the box but he blasted over.

In the second half Rovers were hit the on break twice.

Luigi Rocco ran down the right wing and sent in a low cross, Chris Johnson stepped over the ball to wrong foot Rovers' defence and allowed Chennells to rifle the ball into the top corner in the 69th minute.

Goalkeeper Lee Evans made an acrobatic save to tip away James Kidd's free-kick on the 70 minute mark.

However, Chennells sealed Rovers defeat in the 75th minute. Rovers were applying pressure when Chris McHale's poor pass went straight to the Leighton striker, who was lurking in the centre circle.

Chennells powered past Joe Williams and hit a shot that Evans could only palm into the back of the net.
