SIR - I agree entirely with John Freeman's recent letter in which he states that there are far too many people in prisons because we no longer get rid of murderers by the death sentence.

I do not advocate hanging, for that was a terrible way to die. But I do suggest death by lethal injection, as the Americans do after a period on death row to give the offenders another chance to prove their innocence.
