THE FA Carlsberg Sunday Cup is set to enter its 43rd year and, for the fifth successive season, the 45,000 capacity home of Liverpool FC will host the final on April 29.

Clubs have just three weeks to submit their entries for the 2006/07 competition before the August 1 deadline, with an all-time record prize of £2,000 on offer for the winners.

The competition enables players from Sunday League teams, who are not under written contract, to pit their abilities against sides from across the country.

The FA will be providing a £45,000 funding package to support match and travel expenses.

Many former Football League players have taken part in the Sunday Cup. Kerry Dixon, the former Chelsea striker who was capped eight times by England in the 1980s, played in the 1998 and 1999 Finals.

Steve Clark, the FA's head of competitions, has seen the competition grow in his 36 years at the organisation and is keen for more clubs to take up the challenge.

"The FA Carlsberg Sunday Cup is unique in that it offers players from Sunday Leagues the opportunity to play in a national knock-out competition with a final at one of the most famous football grounds in the world," he declared.

"This season we have increased the prize fund and relaxed the entry criteria slightly to encourage more clubs to take part, whilst media interest in the competition is increasing all the time.

"For a team entry fee of just £40, The FA Carlsberg Sunday Cup provides players with an opportunity to showcase their talents and the chance of a once-in-a-lifetime football experience at Anfield that they will never forget."
