WORCESTER Wolves director of basketball Mick Donovan has heaped praise on the army of travelling fans who cheered his side to victory in the Trophy final.

Around 300 passionate Wolves supporters made the trip to the Coventry Skydome to roar their heroes on to an emphatic 97-82 triumph over the experienced City of Sheffield Arrows.

The win secured Wolves the first piece of silverware since they were formed in 2000 and Donovan was quick to highlight the part the fans had played in the result on Sunday.

He said: "The players were nervous to start with but our supporters were fantastic and they helped us to settle down really quickly and get into our stride.

"I think the belief the fans had filtered through to the players and gave them a real boost.

"Against Essex and Herts in the semi-final we froze, but against Sheffield in the final everyone contributed and played well.

"We are such a young team, so this is a fantastic achievement for everyone involved with the club. Sheffield have been here so many times before and they have a great team so we are delighted to have won.

"This is what we have been working for and it is our first big reward after six years' hard work."

Wolves are now hoping to capitalise on their Trophy glory and go on to more success this season.

Donovan added: "We are still in a good position in the league and the NIA is a nice venue for the play-offs, so it would be nice to get there too. We just want to keep winning games and see where it takes us."
