WORCESTERSHIRE people are being offered a unique opportunity to visit the site of a famous battle that changed the course of the First World War.
On October 31, 1914, the Worcestershire Regiment recaptured the Belgian village of Gheluvelt in the face of overwhelming odds, saving the British Expeditionary Force from being annihilated by the German Kaiser's troops.
Ninety-two years later, the Birmingham War Research Society is this autumn planning to visit the scenes of various First World War battles.
These will include a number of memorials and cemeteries across Belgium and the Somme area, finally attending the Armistice Day service at the Menin Gate, Ypres, on Saturday, November 11.
Coaches will be leaving the Midlands on the night of Monday, November 6, stopping at various pick-up points. Relatives will be given the opportunity to visit the graves of loved ones and buy poppy wreaths should they be required.
