A CYCLIST needed hospital treatment for head injuries after a hit-and-run incident.

The collision happened at Hanley Swan, near the Hanley workshops, just after 1.30am on Sunday.

The woman was riding back to her caravan at Blackmore Park with her husband and daughter after attending a party.

Cycling at the rear of the family group, she was struck by a passing car and thrown from her bike.

She was taken to Worcestershire Royal Hospital, where she was discharged on Monday, after receiving treatment for her injuries.

Failing to stop after the collision, the driver continued in the direction of Hanley Swan with the bike under the car.

It stopped near the outskirts of the village, where the driver was seen to pull something from under the vehicle and from where the damaged bike was later recovered.

At around 9am that morning, a red Citroen ZX Advantage was found with a burst tyre and damage to the windscreen and bodywork in Hanley Road, Hanley Castle, near the junction of the B4209 and the B4211.

Avon and Somerset Police subsequently received a report alleging that a car matching this description had been stolen from a house in Bristol.

A man was arrested in Bristol by police at 1.46pm on Sunday, on suspicion of failure to stop after a road traffic collision.

He was bailed to report back to police at a later date, while inquiries continue.

Police are appealing for witnesses who may have seen the collision or who saw a red Citroen ZX Advantage in the Hanley Swan area around the time of the incident.
