VETERAN Worcester councillor Mike Layland should count himself lucky that he still attracts a certain amount of flak from a few of his fellow councillors and some members of the public.

These days, there is only a pathetic much-reduced rump of New Labour councillors who bear a grudge over Mike's departure from the party. But the very fact that there are still people fighting class wars shows how out-of-touch they are.

These backwoodsmen fail to realise that `right' and `left' are meaningless labels now.

Britain is now run by business conglomerates and Government is their stooge. The only power left is local power and action. That's why people like Mike Layland have been so successful and become populist visionaries. Have you understood that, Councillor Geoff Williams?
