HALLOW Horticultural Society silver jubilee celebration meal was the culmination of the silver jubilee celebrations.

The event was attended by 84 members and guests and was greatly enjoyed by all who attended.

Everyone was welcomed by chairman Brian Pingriff. The hall looked very seasonal and the tables were decorated with flowers arranged by members of the committee, flags showing the society emblem and a variety of flowers. They were displayed in flower pots to reflect that it is a garden society. This was the idea of show secretary Anne Stark and they were much admired.

The toast was proposed by society president David Caldicott and the reply was made by Robin Pearce, vice-president, who gave an overview of the 25 years of the society. There was a celebration cake with the society emblem, provided by Christine Morgan of Design For You. The cake was cut by Edna Wilde, who is the oldest member of the society.

Framed commemorative certificates were presented by Marion Brereton, vice-president of the society, to 14 people who were members at the time the society was formed. They are: Marion and John Brereton, Enid and David Caldicott, Pat Clegg, Janet Crowe, Mrs Doulton, Meg Elcock, Gwyneth Hopkin, Celia Newport, Robin Pearce, Beryl Shammon, Clare Turner and Edna Wilde.

The evening also contained a quiz covering general events which occurred during the preceding 25 years.

The evening closed with thanks to the committee; Mrs Wilde; Trevor the MC; Melody and Sharon, who did the clearing of the tables; Helping Hands and Design For You.

The evening was a great success and members are now looking forward to the next significant reason for celebration.
