IN record time, a depleted committee transformed St David’s Institute ready for Comer WI’s annual quiz.

The tables looked pretty with a centrepiece of summer blossom and the kitchen heaved with plated sandwiches, savouries and cakes.

Joining in were members from five other WIs, together with two independent visitors, Val Tansley and Margaret Clews.

The president, Viv Jackman, welcomed all and kept business matters to a minimum allowing time for an update on WI member Jackie Taylor’s steady progress in hospital and also the misfortune of another member, Betty Gwilliam, also in hospital.

As was expected, the quiz was a noisy affair. However Nick Jackman, quizmaster, kept good order, entertained and challenged by everyone.

During the interval, refreshments revived sufficiently for a picture quiz and then on to further questions from the main quiz. In the end, the winners were North Claines.

Beryl Lord gave a vote of thanks to Nick and Viv Jackman for their valiant effort in producing such a splendid quiz. The raffle prize draw brought to an end a good-humoured and enjoyable evening. The next meeting will be July 21 when radio presenter Ellie Targett will be the speaker.
