SCHOOLS will be battling it out in an NHS Health Challenge quiz to win sports equipment.

NHS Worcestershire will be hosting a Schools Health Challenge event giving local pupils the chance to pick up prizes amounting to almost £2,000 to be used towards funding health-related initiatives and sports equipment.

Ten teams, made up of children aged 13 to 14, will take part in the event, which will be held this Thursday at 1pm in the council chamber at County Hall, Worcester.

Schools taking part include Evesham High School, The Chase School in Malvern, Bishop Perowne CE College, Blessed Edward Oldcorne Catholic College, Christopher Whitehead Language College and Nunnery Wood High School, all in Worcester.

Dr Richard Harling, director of public health, said: “It’s a great opportunity to work with local schools to promote health issues such as obesity that can affect young people.

The quiz will be in various categories including food, nutrition and the body.”

The Schools Health Challenge will be followed by NHS Worcestershire’s annual meeting.

People are invited to attend the public meeting, where the trust will report news from the last year and outline its plan for the future.

The board will also present the annual report for 2009/10.

The meeting will follow the Schools Health Challenge at 2.30pm.
