CATS Protection’s Worcester and District branch is encouraging people to consider adopting two cats that are infected with the feline immunodeficiency virus.

The branch currently has two FIV-positive cats in its care and is keen to find them a permanent home together.

Lynn Glaze, branch co-ordinator, said: “FIV is a virus in cats that is similar to the human virus HIV. However, FIV does not infect humans. FIV-positive cats and kittens make fabulous indoor pets and they have plenty to offer to a new owner.”

The two cats include brown tabby Billy, who is neutered and is looking for an owner that can give him lots of cuddles. Milo is a lovely, friendly black and white boy, about two years old who came to the branch after his owners moved and left him behind. He is vaccinated and microchipped.

Mrs Glaze said: “FIV-positive cats make great companions as they remain indoors close to their owner and are particularly suited to flats and houses without gardens.”

“They can lead normal lives and remain healthy for many years. By keeping FIV-positive cats indoors this reduces their risk of succumbing to other infectious diseases, to which they may be more susceptible.

“As medical advances are made, FIV-positive cats can have longer lifespans than previously expected.”
