WHEN one of the worlds biggest DJs plays live in London he will be joined by two Worcester brothers.

Around 25,000 clubbers are expected to turn out to see Tiesto in Victoria Park on Friday, July 30.

The one-day festival, described as a “tour de force” for dance music fans, will see Pendulum and Japanese Popstars perform live, but also feature the Worcester-born promoters House Rules host their very own arena.

House Rules was founded by brothers Gareth and David Griffiths, who hail from the city.

Gareth, known as Gareth Wyn (houserules.tv), is a former Bishop Perowne High School and Worcester Sixth Form College student currently taking clubland by storm.

He is a resident DJ at Cream in the UK and Ibiza and was recently described by Mixmag as a “future hero”. As a DJ producer his appreciation transcends genre - signed to Paul Van Dyk’s Vandit for his up tempo trance and techno productions, with upcoming house releases on Ministry of Sound.

He has remixed tracks for The Gossip, Kasabian, Duffy and Christina Aguilera and is all set to play the Creamfields festival on August Bank Holiday weekend.

We caught up with him last month (June).

“There is something very special about the main arena at Creamfields, just due to the scale of DJing to 10,000 plus bang up for it punters,” said Gareth, who is now based in London.

“Saying that, I also love more intimate shows where you see the whites of the eyes. I basically love DJing full stop, so crowd size is not always the most important thing.

“I was classically trained as a kid and always had a massive music collection growing up. DJing was the next step, and the production followed soon after.”

Advice for aspiring DJs?

“Very simple,” said Gareth, “produce your own music. "It’s the quickest way to get your name out there."

Both Gareth and David will perform at Victoria Park later this month.
