PRIMARY school pupils celebrated as their new “super” playground was finally unveiled.

Pupils of Hanbury CE First School, near Droitwich, played a major role in the playground’s £5,900 makeover.

The transformation was part of the Royal Bank of Scotland Supergrounds programme, which donates £4,000 to schools to improve their grounds.

As well as coming up with ideas, school staff and parents helped raise the extra £1,900 to complete the project and develop the grounds even further, through an Easter ball and other fund-raising events.

The children helped design, plan and create the new outdoor area, including a classroom, stage, lookout hut, water play and mud play area, sandpit and outdoor music area and a number of other projects with help from teachers, parents and bank staff.

Pupil Harry Whitfield said: “It was wonderful to see our plans turn into reality. The most exciting part for me was to help the adults construct the equipment and learn how to use some of the tools such as the spirit level and tape measure.

“We were all allocated specific tasks and the school gave us time out of our normal school day to play our part so each pupil has a true sense of ownership of the supergrounds project.

“I feel very proud to be responsible for the improvements that have been made.”
