WORCESTER’S Old Elizabethans staged the Asda Kwik cricket girls’ county final with all the district winners involved.

Wordsley-based Fairhaven School won after being put up against Worcester’s Perdiswell Primary, Malvern’s Wyche School, Stourport’s St Bartholomews and St Nicholas Middle from Pinvin among others.

In a round-robin competition, there were plenty of close matches, competitive fielding and a collection of sixes.

Fairhaven won with 13 points, taking 20 wickets, with runners-up St Bartholomews tied on points but claiming only 17 wickets.

Wyche ended up third with 11 points and 29 wickets.

Despite scoring 11 points, young cricketers from Dudley’s Milking Bank Primary were fourth with 22 wickets.

St Nicholas were fifth with seven points and Perdiswell sixth with five.

Fairhaven are unable to take part in today’s West Midlands finals at Colwall as they are on their residential stay so St Bartholomews will stand in.

They will face the best teams from Herefordshire, Shropshire and Staffordshire in the competition which was launched in 2008.
