EMERGENCY services were called to a fire on a busy Worcester trading estate.

Two fire crews from Worcester and one from Droitwich attended a fire at Smith and Deakin Plastics, Blackpole Trading Estate, at 12.15pm today.

Firefighters used breathing apparatus and a thermal imaging camera and brought the fire under control by 1.40pm.

Paramedics were on-site and tested the blood sugar levels of owner Mike Smith, who is diabetic.

No one is believed to have been injured in the fire, which started in the yard at the back of the property.

A third fire appliance was used to help decontaminate the firefighters involved, due to the hazardous nature of the items produced at the factory.

Station manager Grant Wills said: “A fire of this nature has the potential for more serious consequences but thankfully we were on the scene within minutes and able to bring it under control quickly.

"Our training certainly prepares us well for such situations and every precaution was taken to protect those at the premises as well as our firefighters tackling the blaze.”
