YOUNG actress Holly Russell sports a T-shirt and baseball cap – just some of the gifts sent by American group Kool and the Gang to wish a Worcester youth drama group good luck with their forthcoming musical.

Also among the gifts from the popular R&B, soul, funk, disco and jazz group are a signed photograph, a DVD and CD featuring numbers which have contributed to their sales of more than 90 million albums worldwide.

They were sent to Worcester Operatic and Dramatic Society Youth Section with best wishes from Kool and the Gang, who were formed in 1964 and became especially popular with their disco numbers during the 1970s.

That is the era featured in WODYS’ production of Disco Inferno at the Swan Theatre from Tuesday to Saturday, August 3-7.

The show is packed with disco numbers – including Kool and the Gang’s hit Celebration and I Will Survive by Gloria Gaynor – and will run for five evening performances plus a Saturday matinee.

Tickets costing between £10 and £14 are available from the Worcester Live box office at Huntingdon Hall by calling 01905 611427.
