Targeted pupils from the Baxter Pyramid of Schools in Kidderminster, have spent the last few months participating in an exciting project, in which they have produced a newspaper. The project, which has been funded and coordinated by Worcestershire County Council Extended Services Team, in partnership with pupils and staff from all 6 schools, local media arts company, Pablo Productions, and staff from Kidderminster's local paper, The Shuttle, is part of the pyramid's ongoing work towards raising literacy levels and strengthening inter-school partnerships.

Classmates, staff, parents and members of the wider community have been extremely impressed at the quality and diversity of the articles produced by the pupils, and as a reward for their efforts, all children involved in the project were invited to visit Worcester News.

All were extremely excited at the prospect of meeting real-life journalists, and the paper's Editor, Kevin Ward. Whilst there, the children were given the opportunity to take a tour of the premises, and spoke to a number of staff.

They also ventured into the printing room where they saw papers being mass-produced to ready to go out to the public that very evening!

All thoroughly enjoyed the experience, and commented that it had really helped them to put their own work into context. They also said that it had given them an insight into the sheer volume of work involved in producing the newspapers we read, which they felt we often take for granted.
