THE parents of X Factor singing sensation Cher Lloyd could not hear the judges’ comments because the audience was cheering so loudly.

Yesterday, Cher’s father Darren Lloyd, of Malvern Link, had yet to hear the judges rave about the Dyson Perrins student – including Simon Cowell saying she was a “new little star” – because of the noise in the Wembley studio.

The family – mum Diane, brother Josh, sisters Sophie and Rosie and grandparents Jan and John Lunn – travelled up to watch the first live show on Saturday, but had to wait until 7pm to take their seats.

Seated close to the judges, they had a great view of the 17-year-old as she took to the stage – although they admit they were more nervous than she was during the live show.

“I think we had Cher’s nerves,” said Mr Lloyd. “She wasn’t nervous at all.”

But waiting for Cher’s name to be called on Sunday night was the most stressful part.

Mr Lloyd said: “I thought my heart was going to go out of my chest. It was nerve-wracking, especially when people’s names were coming up which were safe. We were just praying Cher’s was next to put us out of our misery.”

But the joy of hearing their daughter had survived until next week was dampened somewhat by the knowledge that two other acts would be going home.

Mr Lloyd said: “The contestants are all a great bunch. They all get on well. The bad thing about it is that you meet the acts which are going home, which is sad.”

The focus is now on next week, when Cher hopes to wow the judges once more.

Her dad said: “It’s all she’s ever wanted. She’s really happy with last week. She loved being up there proving everyone wrong. ”
