A MEMBER of Parliament joined an inter-school council debate.

Pupils from 11 of Droitwich’s schools got the chance to hear from and question their local MP Peter Luff at a meeting of the Droitwich interschool council that took place at Westacre Middle School.

The visit, organised by Worcestershire County Council’s extended services in and around schools team and Westacre Middle School, saw Mr Luff give a presentation to the pupils about his work as an MP followed by a question and answer session.

A representative from each of the schools also gave a presentation on how their own school council works and the difference it has been able to make to their education experience.

Peter Hoarle, extended services co-ordinator for Worcestershire County Council, said: “This visit was a great opportunity for the children to question their local representative and find out a bit more about how democracy works and how it affects their daily lives.”

Andrew Morley, deputy head at Westacre Middle school, said: “It has been really interesting for the children to see how their role as representatives on their school councils is similar to the role that Mr Luff plays for the Droitwich area. Maybe we’ll inspire a future prime minister.”

Mr Luff, MP for Mid- Worcestershire, said: “I greatly enjoyed this event.

It is always rewarding to have the chance to listen to children and hear their view of things.

“And they always ask the hardest and most direct questions.”

Schools involved included the Chawson Community First School, Droitwich Spa High School, Hindlip CE First School, Ombersley Endowed First School and St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School, Droitwich.
