A WORCESTER man kicked a complete stranger so hard in the face the victim lost consciousness and two front teeth, a court was told.

David Broomfield was knocked out during Anthony Hannay’s savage attack.

Mr Broomfield cannot remember the details, only waking up in the ambulance spitting blood.

At Worcester Magistrates Court, Hannay, aged 23, pleaded guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

The attack happened on the corner of St Nicholas Street in Worcester city centre in July.

The victim and two friends – a man and woman – were walking towards Lowesmoor in the early hours when Hannay asked the woman if she was being hassled.

CCTV footage of the incident was shown in court.

In a statement, read out by Liam Finch, prosecuting, Mr Broomfield said: “We stood outside the Metro bar discussing what to do next when this unknown male approached. The next thing I remember after that is being in the back of the ambulance spitting blood from my mouth.”

Hannay, formerly of Grenville Road, Dines Green, was on licence for public disorder offences at the time of the assault. We reported in your Worcester News in July that police were hunting him for breaching licence conditions.

He was arrested and sent back to HMP Hewell in Redditch before police learned he was responsible for this assault. In interview, he claimed the woman had repeatedly said “no” and was concerned as his father used to hit his mother.

Hannay was remanded in custody until Friday, January 7, when he will be sentenced at Worcester Crown Court.
