A charity shop has opened in Stourport to raise money for mentors for young people facing personal difficulties.

The Mentor Link shop sells small furniture and electrical items, as well as clothing and bric a brac.

The charity supports children in local schools by providing them with a voluntary mentor if they are facing problems such as a family breakdown or low self-confidence.

It has more than 200 volunteers supporting 300 young people, on a one-to-one basis, each week in local schools.

The shop opening was supported by local businesses Thursfields Solicitors and SB Print.

Andrea Maddocks, the chief executive of Mentor Link, said: “Our aim now is to develop our work and increase the number of young people that we regularly support. We are thankful to Simon Hodgetts, of SB Print, and Yvonne Lewis, of Thursfields Solicitors, for their support.”

Mr Hodgetts said: “The valuable work Mentor Link does with local pupils is marvellous and deserves recognition.

“We are delighted to be involved with supporting the charity.”

Miss Lewis added: “The work undertaken by Andrea Maddocks and the staff and volunteers at Mentor Link is essential to our local community and it is vital that we all support this very worthwhile charity. We at Thursfields are pleased to be able to offer our support.” For more information on Mentor Link, call 01299 823537.
