A PUB-GOER might have thought he’d had one too many drinks when he found 50p pieces stamped with next year’s date in his pocket.

David Cutting, aged 22, got his loose change out after a night out at the Express Inn, Malvern, to find two coins dated 2011.

The coins were introduced into circulation by the Royal Mint in October and are worth 50p apiece.

Mr Cutting’s grandmother Dorothy Cutting, of Boughton Avenue, St John’s, Worcester, was given the coins for safe-keeping.

“He got them in his change, and we did all wonder if they would be worth something,” she said.

“Being a young lad he showed me what he had found and asked if I thought they were worth anything. I didn’t know if they would be worth any more as it is so close to the new year.”

The new 50p coins, some already issued in 2010, have 29 different designs on their reverses promoting the 2012 Olympics and Paralympics.
