WE’RE not out of the woods just yet, with more snow and frost forecast right up until the new year.

Temperatures last night were predicted to fall as low as -19C (-2.2F) and more snow is forecast to hit Worcester this afternoon and tonight.

On Saturday, Worcester received between four and eight inches of snow, while on Saturday night, temperatures hit a record-breaking low of -19C (-2.2F) in Pershore and -11C (12.2F) in Worcester.

The Met Office issued a severe weather for the Midlands region on Saturday.

Mark Seltzer, a forecaster for the Met Office, predicted this could be the coldest December on record, with a current average temperature of -0.7C – five degrees below the long-term average.

Snow and icy conditions are forecast well into this week, including over Christmas.

Your Worcester News weatherman Paul Damari said: “I’ve got no reason to believe we’re going to see a change in the pattern, it’s going to stay with us.

“We’re likely to see the threat of more snow, although Sunday was sunny and dry, temperatures could be as low as -10C to -19C and as we get through today, tonight and early tomorrow morning, another area of snow is moving up from the south.

“That’s on top of what we’ve already got – coupled with very icy conditions – and temperatures will remain below 0.

“On Wednesday there will be a freezing fog with cold air still pouring in from Europe through Thursday and Friday with low pressure close by giving us an increasing risk of more snow during the latter part of the week. Over Christmas and New Year it will stay bitterly cold, with cold arctic air and more snow at times and overnight frost.”
