A woman seriously hurt while riding her scooter has started to regain consciousness and made her first request – for a nice cup of tea.

Seb Dayus, aged 42, has been at Worcestershire Royal Hospital since the crash in Brickfields Road, Worcester, on Thursday, January 6.

As previously reported in your Worcester News, she was sedated after suffering a broken leg and bruising to her chest, lungs and kidneys, but was moved out of intensive care on Saturday.

Her husband Swifty Bignan said: “She’s started to come round. I asked her if she wanted some cider – her favourite drink – and she said she wanted some tea.

“Hopefully she might be allowed to have it.

“She’s said a few things, but some of it’s just mumbling.

“If I say ‘I love you’ she says ‘I love you’, but it’s a slow process.”

Since the crash, Mr Bignan, a demolition worker, has spent much of his time at the bedside of his wife of just three months, but says now he desperately needs a job.

He said: “I was supposed to start a new job on the Monday after it happened but couldn’t.

“Then I was offered a job for three months by an agency, but I went up there and they’d already sent two other blokes.

“I’m now screaming out for work. I’ve had to sign on, but I’ve got bills to pay so I do need to be working.”

Ms Dayus, of Langdale Drive, Warndon, was hurt during a crash involving her Piaggio scooter and a Renault Megane car.

A police spokeswoman said no one had been arrested over the crash.
