A 38-YEAR-old man who died from a gunshot wound was a former company director made redundant during the recession.

Barry Sugrue was found with “serious life-threatening injuries” after medics and armed police were called to his home in the outskirts of Inkberrow in the heart of rural Worcestershire, yesterday.

He had previously worked with building giant Thomas Vale Construction and was until recently a company director with fitting-out firm CPL Interiors PLC, in Birmingham.

But the business went into administration in January after problems with debt, a dip in turnover and a drop in profits.

He joined the firm in 2008.

As reported as breaking news on this website yesterday, the married 38-year-old was found at home at about 8am with a gunshot wound and taken to the Alexandra Hospital in Redditch.

Sgt James Clifford said there was “no risk to the local community”, following the incident adding that “nobody has been arrested”.

The death is not being treated as suspicious.

Several police cars were called to the house and scene guards posted at the entrance to the barn conversion in Priory Farm Lane on the village outskirts.

A woman was driven away from the house at about 10.20am.

A neighbour, who declined to be named, said the couple living at the house had been “good as gold”.

The converted three-bed barn where Mr Sugrue was found has few neighbouring properties and views across rolling open fields.

It is currently on the market with a local estate agent for £350,000.

Worcestershire coroner Geraint Williams has been informed and an inquest will open shortly.
