DEN building, clay modelling and giant art installation were just some of the fun activities enjoyed by Worcester youngsters.

Scores of children and their families took part in the free HeART of Play event at Cripplegate Park on Saturday.

Led by the Worcester City Parks Play Ranger Team, youngsters also tried their hand at outdoor cooking, traditional games and a Beat the Copper football game with CSO Ian Sweatman, while smaller children enjoyed a messy play session.

Although this was the last of the play ranger projects to be lottery funded, there will be plenty more free activities taking place throughout the summer holidays, thanks to a grant from the Play Council.

Park warden Michelle Newell said: “I think it’s really important that when people come to parks in the city there’s something additional going on for them to get involved in.

“All these activities are free and families can stay for half an hour or a couple of hours.”
