THERE was much laughter at the June meeting as we had hired the Kurling set from our fellow WI at Hallow.
Kurling is played indoors (no ice involved) without brooms brushing the floor but no doubt these would have added even more to the chaos and fun.
Having divided the members into two teams and appointed captains, it was cut-throat from then on. The discs were hurled or gently glided along the floor depending on the tactic used.
Both red and blue teams were knocking their opponents’ discs off the mat or – more to the ecstatic joy of the opposing team – knocking them farther on and increasing the points.
It was a nail-biter to the end with the red and blue team going neck and neck. The blue team won – the prize being a large box of Maltesers, which they graciously offered out to the losing side.
Our next meeting is at 7.15pm on Wednesday, July 6, at Bishop Allenby Hall, St Stephen’s Church, Droitwich Road, Worcester. Neil Cook, head gardener at Hanbury Hall, will speak to us about the stately home’s gardens. More details about us can be found at northclaineswi.moonfruit.co.uk.
