A MAN caught drink-driving in a supermarket car park was having an “utterly disastrous” year.
Darren Fry, of Alexandra Road, Evesham, had a reading of 58 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath – the legal limit being 35mcg – when he was pulled over by police on Saturday, May 21.
They were alerted after a man spotted him clipping his parked car, damaging the wing mirror and denting the side of the vehicle.
Fry, aged 41, was stopped by police after they surrounded him as he tried to drive away from Morrison’s car park.
He pleaded guilty to both failing to stop and driving when over the limit.
Sarah Brady, defending, said: “This incident was completely out of character.
“He has had an utterly disastrous time over the last year.
“He got divorced and was diagnosed with bi-polar disorder. His finances have also reached a point where he is filing for bankruptcy.”
Sentencing, deputy district judge Bruce Morgan said: “It is always sad to see someone like you before the court. Just over 40 years old, never been in trouble before.”
Fry was given a £250 fine, disqualified from driving for 16 months, ordered to pay £100 compensation and £100 in court costs.
