THE Mayor of Worcester is urging people to get on their bikes in aid of a charity fund-raising campaign.

Councillor Dr David Tibbutt is lending his support to the British Heart Foundation’s annual Worcester Bike Ride, which takes place on Sunday, June 26.

This year includes a new route which will enable people of all ages and abilities to take part and raise funds for the charity.

Those taking part can explore the Worcestershire countryside around villages such as Himbleton, Abbotts Morton and Crowle on a 17, 30 or 50-mile route.

Jemma Curran, regional event organiser for the BHF, said: “This is a completely new route that not only offers a choice of three distances to cater for all cyclists, but also provides lovely views and a stunning setting.

“We’re hoping to raise more than £20,000 to help the BHF save lives locally, so we need the people of Worcester to register now and take part in this fantastic, worthwhile event.”

Coun Tibbutt said: “Heart disease touches us all and every day the BHF saves lives through funding ground-breaking research, but they can’t do this without our help.

“The Worcester Bike Ride provides a fantastic opportunity for us all to get involved, either through volunteering our time for the event day, through taking part and raising sponsorship, or through supporting someone we know who is participating. So let’s get on our bikes and support this fantastic cause.”

Entry costs £10 in advance or £15 on the day for adults and £5 for children.
