GROUPS from across the city have come together to create a community artwork to celebrate a special anniversary.

The pieces, which are on display at Worcester Arts Workshop and the former Carwardine’s coffee shop in Pump Street until the end of next week, commemorate the 90th anniversary year of the Royal British Legion.

Co-ordinated by community artist Mary Price Jenkins, contributions on the theme of the RBL’s Poppy Appeal have been submitted by the Myriad Centre for adults with complex needs, Worcester Arts Workshop, St George’s Primary School, St Richard’s day hospice, 3rd Worcester Scouts, Raindrops Nursery and Sansome Walk Baptist Church.

A celebration to mark the anniversary will take place in Sanders Park, Bromsgrove, on Saturday.

Nick Martin, RBL community fund-raiser for Worcestershire, said the charity’s Poppy Appeal was as relevant to today’s serving soldiers as the veterans of past conflicts.

“We’re providing £25 million to run four personnel recovery centres which have been set up to help injured troops, particularly those returning from Afghanistan,” he said.

The RBL is appealing for more volunteers. For details, call Mr Martin on 07721 432927 or e-mail nmartin@britishlegion.
