STUDENTS at New College Worcester can now explore the great outdoors thanks to a kind donation.

The Primary Club – the cricketers’ charity which raises money to provide sports and recreational facilities for the visually impaired – has given 10 new tents to the college to replace its decade old ones which are starting to show their age. The donation came through Howard and Heather Tomlinson of Hereford, who support the Primary Club in memory of their son, Edward.

He died of carbon monoxide poisoning in Beirut in 2005 and had been a keen member of the Primary Club from the age of 10 or 11, when he first heard about it on Test Match Special.

The couple have raised the money for their donation through the sale of their book about their son, entitled Celebrating Eddie.

Outdoor activities co-ordinator Caroline Gibbs said the tents were gratefully received.

“They will make a huge difference and we are very grateful for them – here’s to another 10 years of camping,” she said.
