THE city’s beer, cider and perry festival is brewing up nicely this year, according to organisers.

The 12th Worcester CAMRA festival is again returning to Pitchcroft in the city centre for three days from Thursday, August 11.

The event is being tied in with Worcester hosting the separate Three Choirs Festival and, consequently, the finest ales from Worcestershire, Herefordshire and Gloucestershire will be strongly featured.

However, tipples from across the UK and some from abroad will also once again be on tap.

The call has gone out for volunteers willing to give up their time to ensure the show’s success.

Organiser Bill Ottaway said: “It’s a lot of work for us and without our 100-plus volunteers, it wouldn’t be possible for Worcester to have the largest CAMRA festival in the West Midlands and one of the largest festivals in the country.

“But seeing so many people come each year and enjoy themselves in a relaxed tranquil environment in the centre of Worcester makes it worthwhile.”

More than 30,000 pints of real ale, cider and perry will be available this year while a staggering 12,000 people are expected to attend.

There will be more than 200 ales and more than 100 ciders and perries from all over the country, as well as fruit wines, soft drinks and several food outlets.

Live bands will be playing on Thursday and Friday evenings and all day Saturday in the separate music tent, while the business of drinking and sampling will be hosted in the main marquee.

Mr Ottaway said: “The festival just keeps on getting bigger and better each year.

“This will be our third year at our current site and the large drinking hall marquee with separate band tent has proven to be a winning formula.”
