TEAMS are being sought to take part in the challenging centrepiece race at Bromyard’s inaugural Hop Festival.

A hop pocket race will see teams of four racing around the town on Saturday, September 3, from 2pm carrying a 70kg hop pocket, or bag, traditionally used for storing dried hops.

Organisers are billing the event as the Hop Pocket World Championships and hope to attract teams not only from around Britain but also other hop-growing countries such as America, Austria and Germany.

Festival spokesman Chris Barltrop said: “You don’t have to be Superman or Wonder Woman, just come along, enter a team and take part.

“We would love for it to go international this year. We are very proud of having invented this unique event.”

Entry per team is £10 and completed forms should be returned by Friday, August 19. There will be categories for men, women and juniors.
