WE welcomed visitors from Broomhall, Comer, North Claines and St Peter’s WIs to our June meeting.
We were told about invitations to an afternoon July meeting at Swanpool WI, two August meetings – on the same day – at Kempsey and North Claines and a September quiz at Comer.
A speakers’ meeting will take place on July 28, which also coincides with our outing to see Half A Sixpence at the Swan Theatre.
There is a WFWI resolution suggesting we all hold our AGM in May starting in 2013 and members are asked to give it their consideration.
Janet Simmons was thanked for arranging flowers at WI House in early June.
Our entertainers for the evening were handbell ringers, who played a wide selection of music from Beethoven and Gilbert and Sullivan and popular songs such as Over The Rainbow and Moon River. They finished with Land Of Hope And Glory with everyone singing along.
Avril thanked them for their enjoyable entertainment.
Our monthly competition for a paperweight was judged by the handbell ringers and Janet Murphy was the winner.
A competition for guessing the name of the teddy was won by a North Claines member.
We meet again on Tuesday, July 19, to visit the Recycling Centre at Norton and in the evening at 7.30pm for our meeting, when the speaker will demonstrate the art of pressed dry flowers.
