WE remembered with great sadness the passing of our president, David Brickell, who had for many years been a devoted supporter of the Royal British Legion.

David’s support will be badly missed and the chairman thanked members for attending the service of thanksgiving for the life of David, which was held at Powick Church on June 9.

On a happier note, we had the pleasure of attending a birthday party at the Old Bush for our chairman Guy, who will be standing down later this year, and also a celebration of the 90th anniversary of the legion.

On both occasions, donations were made to the Poppy Appeal.

The Group 3 rally service was held at St John’s Church on Sunday, June 12, and was well attended by most branches in the group.

Powick and Callow End were able to send seven delegates including our new standard bearer Ashley Curtiss who did us proud and was one of the smartest on parade.

There will be a county rally and drum head service on Saturday, July 2, at The Meadow, Catshill, Bromsgrove. Parade starts at 1.30pm with a range of attractions and party later in the park hosted by Lickey End branch.

We have submitted at least one team for the county quiz at Offenham on July 29.

A skittles match is planned for August to challenge the WI again and surely this time it must be their year (date to be confirmed).

Our next meeting will be on Tuesday, July 12, at Madresfield Club starting at 8.15pm.
