A HOTEL in Worcestershire has been labelled the “Ritz for rovers” because of the five-star treatment it gives to its four-legged guests.

The Riverside Hotel on the river Avon in Evesham is offering pampered pooches a place to relax in its three special dog suites with private gardens, perfect for when nature calls.

Canine guests have their own waiter, room service and can order from a special menu, which has been devised by chef Rico Pecho and adapted to suit a doggy palate with the help of the Dogs Trust.

Pet portrait sessions and swims in a local spa pool can also be arranged.

Among the boutique hotel’s prestigious patrons are Britain’s Got Talent star Pippa Langhorne and her lhasa apso puppy, Buddy, and Lady Mishcon, former wife of the late Lord Mischon, lawyer to royalty.

Hotel owner Debbie Sinclair, who herself has Jack Russell Pepe and six puppies, said catering for canines had really caught on.

“We’ve been inundated with inquiries from all over the world,” said Ms Sinclair.

“We had Pippa and Buddy staying here. He had a little dinner jacket on so we created him a special menu.

“We don’t get that many dogs come with their owners when they stay here but when we do, we don’t see there’s a problem with it.

"In France, all the restaurants allow dogs so why do we have such an issue with it here?

“The owners like to treat and pamper their dogs. Lady Mishcon likes it so much she plans to move in here.”

The Riverside Hotel is one of 100 pet-friendly places to stay in Worcestershire and is part of tourist board Visit Worcestershire’s campaign to highlight the county as the ideal destination for pet owners.
