WORK was carried out overnight to repair a burst water main.

As we reported yesterday, water flooded onto Cotswold Way in Warndon, Worcester, after the eight- inch water main burst on Monday night.

Nicki Payne, who works for an IT company just off Cotswold Way, reported the problem to Severn Trent just before 8.30am yesterday, but crews did not arrive on the scene until about 5.30pm.

At 1.30pm Mrs Payne and a colleague found out that there was still water leaking but no one from Severn Trent had arrived at the scene.

After making a phone call, a colleague found that the problem had been dispatched to crews, but permission was needed from Worcestershire County Council.

Mrs Payne said: “When I left work it looked like they were starting to put up temporary traffic lights but it’s frustrating that it took eight hours before anything happened.

“Our main concern was the amount of water leaking out, it seemed so wasteful and nobody appeared to be doing anything about it.

“I realise that Severn Trent only have a limited number of people and they can’t be everywhere at once, but when I reported the fault I said it was flooding, so assumed they would have tried to do something as soon as possible.”

A spokeswoman from Severn Trent was only able to confirm the leak had been repaired.

A spokesman for the county council said: “Severn Trent do legally have to notify us of any works they plan to do.

"Notices are put through electronically and are graded.

"Urgent works, such as yesterday’s incident, require two hours’ notice and they were logged with us to have a start time of 18.54pm.”
