A BRA-vellous effort by volunteers has seen more than 100,000 bras moved to a new home.

Supporters of the bra chain campaign and Breakthrough Breast Cancer took just two hours on Monday to load four lorry-fulls of underwear at Storage King in Tolladine Road which is where the bras have been stored for the past two years.

As previously reported in your Worcester News, manager Terry Proc donated three new units to the bra chain in February this year.

They were originally being stored in a smaller unit at the warehouse but this quickly filled up.

A lorry donated by Tooles Transport took the bras to units at Shrub Hill Industrial Park which the campaign has been given free use of by developers St Modwen.

Organiser Karen Tomalin said: “The time has come to move because we need more space so we can work on the bra chain as a project for next year.

“We’ve had two years of free storage at Storage King – the manager Terry Proc has been absolutely fantastic getting involved and going above and beyond.”

Mrs Tomalin added the group was planning to make a second attempt at creating the world’s longest bra chain next year and is still collecting donations of unwanted bras.

The bra chain received donations and support from across the country in the run-up to its planned record-breaking attempt on Sunday, July 31.

But the attempt failed when organisers ran out of time.

As we reported, dozens of volunteers gathered at Worcester Racecourse from 6.30am to sort, count and link the bras.

Despite a valiant effort by all, the logisitics of linking 200,000 bras end-to-end proved too much.

Organisers said they did not know how many bras they had successfully linked but vowed to come back fighting and make a second attempt.

The current record for the world’s longest bra chain was set in Australia where volunteers made a continuous link of 166,000 bras.
