A GROUP of 13 Powick Ramblers and dog Tilly visited the Cotswolds for a five-and-a-half-mile walk along the ridge from Fish Hill Picnic and car park site to Broadway Tower.

After crossing the busy A44 Evesham to Oxford Road, the way led to Dor Knapp and to Clump Farm and then downhill to Broadway.

From Church Street and St Edburg’s Church the route then led up the scarp slope towards the Snowshill Road and to the tower itself.

The walkers visited the tower, which was built as a folly in 1799 by the Earl of Coventry.

Nearby a nuclear bunker is sited having been built in 1961 during the height of the Cold War.

The escorted tour involved climbing down a vertical ladder and looking at booklets, instruments and sleeping bunks.

After the tour the walkers made their way back to Fish Hill Car Park via part of the Cotswold Way.

Phil and Joy were thanked for leading the walk.

The ramblers will meet on Thursday, September 1, at Cradley Church at 10am for a four-and-ahalf- mile walk in the area, led by David Allen (telephone 01905 831988).
