UPTON Festival may have only just finished, but plans for next year’s event are already in place.

More than 4,000 people descended upon a field over the weekend for the second Upton Music Festival to hear T-Rex, From the Jam and the Beat play – but don’t worry if you missed it: tickets for Upton 2012 will be available from Friday.

Event organiser Jennifer Smith said the atmosphere was the real highlight of the festival.

“The whole weekend was electric and ran very smoothly,” she said.

“From feedback from customers, the main comment was that they couldn’t believe the festival had grown and progressed in just one year.

“The changes that were made for this year’s event went very well – there are certainly more changes to come and develop over the up and coming years.

“As to which act I liked the most, I’d say it was pretty much split between T-Rex, From the Jam, the Beat and The Wurzels – all four bands drawing a massive crowd and phenomenal atmosphere.”

Even a couple of incidents – which Ms Smith said were handled quickly and professionally by their security team – which meant the police had to be called could not dampen the overall good will of the festival.

Sergeant Ian Booth, from West Mercia Police, said: “A handful of incidents were reported to police over the weekend, around the amount expected at a large event.

“The vast majority of people enjoyed the festival. No arrests were made and any incidents were dealt with at the event itself.”

Indeed, the festival was great news for local traders, who benefited from the thousands of extra people who chose to camp over the course of the weekend.

Ms Smith said: “We had a great response from the Upton locals this year, with local shops thriving from the influx of visitors to the town.

“The local Spar, Co-op and fish and chip shop reported a record number of people and financial takings over the weekend saying that they were overwhelmed with the business this festival has brought to the town.”
